Translations

This site stores and displays two translations, both of them in the public domain.

King James Version

The Authorized Version, using the standardised text of 1769, which is the edition most printed King James Bibles follow. It keeps the small capitals on LORD, which marks where the Hebrew carries the divine name rather than the ordinary word for lord.

World English Bible

A modern English translation, released into the public domain by its publishers at eBible.org. Seven verses that appear in the King James Version are absent from the World English Bible, because its translators followed a text that treats them as later additions. Where you land on one of those verses, the site shows the King James reading and labels it as such rather than showing you a blank.

Other translations

The NIV, ESV, NLT, and NKJV are under copyright, so their text is not stored or displayed here. The "read the full chapter" link opens the chapter in whichever of those you pick on Bible.com, which is licensed to show them.
